I have always been a fan of Meridian products from my first preamp the 101B, the 200 series equipment through to the current 500 units. I currently use the 201 preamp to drive the Quads with outstanding results. This build quality has lead to one of my friends now using a 500 series preamp into his Quad 606 and a 500 CD series CD player

This was my first preamp. It was fitted with the moving coil phono stage. The phono stage was superb even by today's standards.

My next pre was a Velleman Valve kit which I built to go with the Quads. More on this in the Valve pre section. I finally upgraded to a 201 pre which I still use. I had heard this preamp before (Gavin) and new its capabilities. I currently feel no need to change from this unit. Not bad for a unit that dates back to 1986!

However another friend of mine (Ben) has a 500 series pre and the results are again excellent. This would definitely be a major consideration if I look to change the pre.

The only change I needed to make to this amp was to allow for my Van Den Hull interconnects. I removed the metal back plate (8 black screws and the larger centre brass one) and this allowed me to overbore the holes on the output and CD inputs to accept the Van Den Hulls

(These pictures were taken by the previous owner when he sold the unit.)
